Boxing is a waste of time

After paying $59.95+tax to watch the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight this past weekend, I realized that I had been had.

“Oh, I say and I say it again, ya been had! Ya been took! Ya been hoodwinked! Bamboozled! Led astray! Run amok!”- Malcolm X (1992)

It was a good clean fight, but who pays all that money for just a good clean fight? No biting, no blood, no police, nothing. If I wanted to see all that is good in the sport I will watch ESPN Classics and watch 100 hours of Ali. This fight won’t be memorable to many because there was nothing to remember accept that you spent all that money for nothing to remember. (Well that’s what I remember.)

I was glad Mayweather got his chance to beat “The Golden Boy” De La Hoya, but I was so dissapointed in the theatrics of the whole event. It just seemed like it was a well executed play. Nothing fancy. No excitement. Nothing.

I originally thought I was going to see some old made for tv story with Floyd’s father running to the corner of De La Hoya to help him beat his son for not getting him a ticket or better yet, Floyd Mayweather Sr. running to the ring to hug his son at the end of the fight in a climatic Rocky moment. But did I get that…NOOOOOO! I got some BS. When the fight was over I was looking for Don King to show up at any minute and say “Suprise! I gotcha. Only in a America” will people pay to see crap.

There are so many belts in boxing now, that you don’t know who’s champion of what. It seemed like Mayweather was suprised that he was going to get another belt after the fight. I guess it’s buy one, get one free these days when it comes to boxing titles.

Well, this past weekend did it for me. I won’t be hyped into “the next big fight”or “he greatest showdown ever”..again. Watching boxing is just like watching a stripper. It’s never as exciting as it’s hyped up to be and it cost you more than what it was worth.
